Meet Our Horses
Our horses are the heart of our equestrian programs, each with a unique personality and role at the farm. From gentle lesson horses who help beginners find their confidence to retired companions enjoying a well-earned rest, every horse at Fox Field Farm is loved and well cared for. Whether you’re here for a riding lesson or just want to admire these majestic animals, they are always happy to greet visitors.
Meet
Norman
We always wondered what adventure we would enjoy with him next.
Since 2010, Norman was a beloved Fox Field Farm favorite who would go on any journey asked of him. Thoughtful and kind — and often delightfully goofy — he was our trusted partner for mobile menageries and a constant crowd favorite.
We always believed Norman had a bit of Chicopee pony in him, and he certainly had the personality to match. He loved a good roll in the sand, often popping back up with that signature spark in his eye, ready for whatever came next. His beautiful chestnut coat was admired and lovingly styled by local barber school students who visited the farm, always giving him the most fun and memorable trims.
His spunky nature never failed to amuse us, yet it was his gentle kindness with young children that so many admired most. Norman brought joy wherever he went and to everyone he met. He will forever remain part of the heart and story of Fox Field Farm.
Meet
Merlin
“Obviously Pretty Wild”
out of Pretty Lady × Obviously Wild
Registered Paint Pinto Quarter Horse
Known by his barn name, Merlin proudly held the title of “Sheriff of the Horses.” A true steady Eddy in every sense, Merlin carried himself with a quiet confidence that made everyone around him feel safe and at ease. He was purchased as a husband horse and quickly became Ben’s pride and joy — a trusted partner whose calm presence and willing heart made him incredibly special to our family.
Before finding his way to Fox Field Farm, Merlin had a reputation for being a bit moody and was considered not the right fit for other stables. But we saw in him what others didn’t. We spoke his language — and he knew it. With gentle guidance, patience, and love at our farm, Merlin grew into the most dependable and trusted companion anyone could ask for.
Our farm needed a handy, safe ground mount for all ages and stages, and Merlin filled that role beautifully. Whether for outings, grooming sessions, clipping days, or everyday adventures, he showed up with patience and grace. A talented and gentle gentleman, Merlin stood quietly while children learned, adults found confidence, and life at the farm unfolded around him.
His journey was one of trust, understanding, and transformation. Merlin reminded us that with time and compassion, every soul can shine in the right place. He will always be remembered as a loyal partner, a steady presence, and a deeply cherished member of the Fox Field Farm family.
Meet
Willow
Khem Briuha (Registered Arabian) × QT Spot in Time
Aurora’s baby. Our Christmas pony.
We still remember the 4 PM Christmas Eve text from a beloved Fox Field Farm alum: “Do you want a free palomino pony?” — a horse girl’s dream come true. A golden large pony arriving just in time for Christmas felt like pure magic, and Willow quickly proved she was exactly that.
Willow was a gorgeous blessing to Fox Field Farm from the moment she arrived. With her striking palomino coat and quiet presence, she carried a natural beauty that made her unforgettable. She was gentle and steady for new students and timid riders, offering reassurance and patience, yet athletic and spirited when paired with more experienced equestrians. She had a remarkable ability to meet each rider exactly where they were.
There was a calm confidence about Willow — a quiet elegance that made her a natural “director’s choice” whenever cameras were around. Whether in photos, videos, or simply standing in the field, she had a presence that drew people in without trying.
More than anything, Willow was kind. She gave riders courage, offered calm when nerves were high, and brought a soft, steady energy to the barn each day. She was deeply loved, and her beauty, spirit, and gentle heart will always remain part of Fox Field Farm’s story.
Meet
Sedona
Strawberry roan Canadian line · Pony of the Americas (POA)
Sedona was bred, raised, trained, and shown on Farmer Ben’s family farm in Vermont — a true product of generations of horsemanship and care. Raised as a kid’s pony from the very beginning, she grew up understanding her role as a partner to young riders and a steady presence in the barn.
A Pony of the Americas and tall for the breed standard, Sedona has always been a horse of many talents. She bridges the gap between pony and horse, making her a wonderful match for riders of different ages and stages, and a dependable companion for learning, growing, and gaining confidence.
The most vocal in the barn, Ms. Sedona always has something to say. Whether nickering for attention, greeting familiar faces, or offering her opinion on the day’s events, her expressive personality brings life and energy to the farm. She connects deeply with people and thrives on interaction, always eager to be part of whatever is happening around her.
Sedona carries the strength, heart, and resilience that define Fox Field Farm. She remains a beloved and vital part of our herd, continuing the work she was raised to do — caring for riders, building confidence, and reminding us every day of the deep bond between horses and the families who love them.
Meet
Chevy
Gray gelding
Chevy is a newer addition to the Fox Field Farm family, officially joining us in 2025. During the school year, he is housed at Lyman Hall Stables as part of their equine program, where he continues the work he has always done best — caring for and connecting with people.
Before finding his way to us, Chevy had several homes across Connecticut, adapting each time to the needs of the riders who loved him. Whether on trails, in local shows, or supporting casual riders returning to the saddle, he had a remarkable ability to read people and meet them exactly where they were. Steady for the nervous, responsive for the confident, and always willing, Chevy became known for his calm presence and honest partnership.
He later spent time in a therapeutic riding program, where his intuitive nature and gentle spirit helped riders navigating trauma, disability, and fear. In every setting, Chevy proved himself to be more than just a horse — he was a healer, a partner, and a steady heart for those who needed him most.
Compact and sturdy with a watchful, intelligent expression, Chevy carries himself with quiet confidence. He listens, he learns, and he gives generously of himself. We are honored to have him as part of the Fox Field Farm family and to continue the journey he was always meant for — helping people find confidence, connection, and comfort in the saddle.
